Floyd Poenitz- President, SDA Kinship

As we step into September, I’ve been thinking about how much our Kinship community has grown — not just in numbers, but in courage, compassion, and connection. Every month I hear from members who are navigating complicated family conversations, returning to school, starting new jobs, or simply trying to find a place where they can breathe and be themselves.

Kinship continues to be that place.

In a world that often rewards division, we choose something different. We choose to show up for one another. We choose to listen. We choose to believe that every story matters — whether it’s joyful, painful, unfinished, or still unfolding. And we choose to keep building a community where LGBTQ+ Adventists and former Adventists can find belonging without conditions. Our presence, our visibility, and our willingness to speak truth with compassion make a difference. When one student finds us online, when one parent reaches out for support, when one pastor chooses empathy over judgment — that’s Kinship at work.

This month, I want to encourage each of us to reach out to someone in Kinship we haven’t talked to before. A simple message, a check‑in, a “Hey, I’m glad you’re here.” These small acts of connection are what keep our community strong.

As students return to Adventist campuses, as families settle into fall routines, and as many of us prepare for the holiday season ahead, remember: you are part of a global family that sees you, values you, and walks with you.

We are building something powerful together — a community rooted in authenticity, hope, and the belief that every person deserves dignity.

Thank you for being part of this mission.

Floyd Pönitz, President
