Message from the president

ree

It is called the happiest time of the year. Since many of us are, or grew up, Adventist, I will wish you all Merry Christmas. But this time of the year has so many wonderful holidays and celebrations that I truly do like wishing everyone Happy Holidays.

The Christmas story is magical and wonderful no question. But it is also wonderful to learn a bit more about the other holidays that our friends also enjoy and celebrate. Each one contains rich traditions and celebrations that are meaningful to them. Even Adventism can't be put into one box. Each of us grew up with traditions that are unique to our family and cultural history. Take some time to reflect on what your traditions are and which ones you still value and observe.

Ask your friends about theirs. Sharing builds community. I encourage you to post on our social media (Facebook or WhatsApp) some of the memories and traditions you have of Christmas celebrations of the past. Maybe even make a short video of 30 seconds to 2 minutes and share with us your thoughts. If you aren't on either of our community platforms, send it to info@sdakinship.org and I'll post it for you. Getting to know each other better is a great way to build community.

Realistically there are challenges that come with family (or friends) celebrations. Remember to keep yourself safe (mind, body and soul) and that you are never alone in this journey through life. Your Kinship family is walking with you each step of the way. Reach out if you need to talk. We are all in this together and we are stronger because of it.

Merry Christmas and Joy in whatever you are celebrating this month. May PEACE live within you and shine out to everyone who needs to experience for themselves.
