Help Fill A Gap In Conversion Therapy Research

Updated: May 8

ree

fundraiser has been organized to raise money for a study on the impact of Coming Together Ministries on LGBTQIA+ Adventists.

General studies have shown that groups like Adventist-affiliated Coming Together Ministries (formerly known as Coming Out Ministries [COM]) that focus on LGBTQIA+ individuals, telling them they are not acceptable to God as they are and that they need to change their orientation to heterosexual, or at the least be celibate for the rest of their lives, are causing poor mental health (particularly in adolescents and youth).

Research on conversion therapy, which many claim mirrors Coming Together Ministries’ practices, reveals that young people who experienced conversion therapy were twice as likely to attempt suicide. We believe our proposed research, which aims to capture the effects of these practices in faith settings specifically, will further this understanding and mobilize more to address this extreme health risk.
