A Weekend of Connection for Kinship in Germany

Each February, members of the Kinship community in Germany gather for a weekend of connection, reflection, and planning. This year’s gathering took place near Göttingen at Waldschlösschen, a historic retreat center surrounded by nature. The peaceful setting, comfortable accommodations, and welcoming meeting spaces created the perfect environment for meaningful conversation and community building.

Forty two people attended this year’s gathering, including more than ten who joined for the first time. One of the most encouraging aspects of the weekend was how quickly newcomers felt at home. A strong sense of care and inclusion continues to define the Kinship community, and that spirit was evident throughout the weekend.

The program included time for worship, discussion, and informal connection. Participants shared reflections together, took walks through the surrounding countryside, and enjoyed simple moments of conversation that often become the most meaningful part of gatherings like these.

A major focus of the weekend was looking ahead. As the community continues to grow, leaders discussed ways to strengthen connection across Germany. One step forward is the development of regional coordinators who will help build local relationships and create opportunities for members to connect closer to home.

Another area of focus is communication. A small media team will now support the community’s online presence and help share stories and updates more consistently. These efforts aim to keep members connected, even when they are spread across different regions.

The group also discussed future gatherings and events that will continue to strengthen relationships and create spaces for dialogue within local congregations. These gatherings remain an important way for people to meet others who share similar experiences and faith journeys.

As winter begins to give way to spring across Germany, the sense of renewal felt in nature mirrors the hope many carried home from the weekend. The conversations, friendships, and plans that emerged from the gathering continue to move the community forward.

And the tradition will continue. The next February gathering is already planned, giving members something to look forward to as the community grows and deepens its connections year after year.
