“The Shaft” is a movie that helps us learn about God's all-inclusive/non-religious love in a contemporary language. This movie also serves as a great way to discuss the various themes within the film.

Session 3: Kathy Baldock: Looking at Same-Sex Behavior: Understanding Human Sexuality through History and in Bible Translations
Beginning with patriarchy, Kathy Baldock investigates the social and sexual roles of men and women focusing on the radical shift occurring from 1860 to the 1920s. Baldock shares her findings from new research on the 1946 RSV translation where the word “homosexual” was introduced for the first time in the Bible—in any language and look at key verses in modern translations, and the 2001 NIV.  Using an easy-to-understand timeline approach attendees will look at key Bible passages, their meanings in ancient times, and how they have been translated over time.

Session 4: Randi Robertson: Flying Through Life – A Contemporary Look at being Transgender in American.
Randi will share her life experience as a transgender woman, military/professional aviator, and Christian.  Drawing from her life experience she will look at privilege in society and how the transgender and broader LGBTQI experience is being impacted by current cultural and political forces, and how she envisions continuing to work for broad inclusion and equality for the transgender community and beyond.
