"Why should I attend Kampmeeting and especially Kampmeeting 2008?" was a question posed to me recently. I thought, What a great question! And thought if one person had this question there are probably others who are thinking the same thing. So why should you attend Kampmeeting?
Kampmeeting is a time when we as LGBTI individuals
with current and former roots in Seventh-day Adventism can come
together and celebrate our faith, uniqueness, and diversity. It's
a time when we can fellowship and commune with our Creator through
song, message, discussion, community, and many other ways. It
is also a time when we can make new friends, while renewing friendships
with those individuals we have not seen in a year (or more!).
Why should you attend Kampmeeting 2008? There are many exciting reasons why you should. Our theme this year is "Building Our Community." During this week you will be hearing from a variety of speakers, workshop presenters, and our own board of directors on various ways that you can contribute to help build an effective and prosperous community that will minister to the LGBTI Adventist community.
As part of our community building experience we will be taking time to learn how we can include the loving, supportive individuals in our lives. On Sabbath, July 19, we will be inviting our families and friends to our second annual "Family & Friends Day" event. Last year's event received a very popular rating, and we would like to continue this tradition this year. If you have family and friends that live close to the Washington, DC area or would be willing to travel to this event, please plan on inviting them. Ready-to-print invitations and more information will be available shortly on the Kampmeeting page of our website.
In addition, what community-building event would be complete if we did not include some time for fun and fellowship? This year's activities include visiting the sights and sounds of our nation's capitol, Washington, DC on our Wednesday "Day Off," July 17. Our annual Talent Show on Saturday evening, July 19, will feature a themed event from 1970s.
My hope as Kampmeeting Coordinator is that you
join us for this wonderful event and learn how you can help Kinship
continue to be an awesome and dynamic place. For more questions
and information, please feel free to email me at kampmeeting@sdakinship.org. To

I am looking forward to seeing all of you in the Washington, DC area, July 13-20, 2008 at Kinship Kampmeeting 2008!
