Transgender
The current accepted definition of "transgender" is as an all-inclusive term for all persons whose expression of gender is outside the current cultural expectations or norms.
Transgender is an umbrella term for those defying gender norms of male and female, norms being the ideology set into motion by social systems including those living as the opposite sex or just dressing as such. The LGBT Resource Center at UC Riverside defines transgender similarly as, “A person who lives as a member of a gender other than that expected based on anatomical sex. Sexual orientation varies and is not dependent on gender identity.” Regardless of their biological sex, transgendered persons are as fluid in their gender identity as those whose gender identity, as male or female, matches their born biological sex.
Kinship has experts in this area who can address the needs of our transgender members.
