Your country or your family? No one should have to choose. |
How do you choose between the person you love and your country?
LGBT Americans who fall in love with someone from another country often face this impossible question.
They can't sponsor a same-sex partner for immigration (a basic right others enjoy), so many are forced to leave the U.S. in order to keep their families together.
Tomorrow, some of these courageous families will be in Washington to share their stories with members of Congress. They'll testify at a hearing in support of the Uniting American Families Act, legislation that would end this grave injustice.
By backing up their voices tomorrow with thousands of letters and calls, you can help.
Send a letter urging Congress to pass this family-friendly legislation TODAY.
The discrimination faced by bi-national same-sex couples is indefensible, especially since U.S. immigration policy is built on a commitment to family unification. Nineteen other countries recognize committed same-sex couples as 'families' for immigration purposes. The U.S. does not.
HRC is working to educate legislators on the need for reform and drawing attention to the heart-wrenching stories of the families torn apart by this discriminatory policy.
Tomorrow, as members of the Senate Judiciary Committee convene to listen to our case, we need your support to make sure they get the message: stop breaking apart loving families!
Take a moment to send a letter to your lawmakers today.
No one should have to choose between the life that they've built and the love they've found.
