About the Author
Given
the sensational polarities often seen within literature surrounding the
issue of homosexuality, I believe it is important for an author to explicitly
state his/her background to allow the reader to discern potential bias.
I
was born and raised in the Seventh-day Adventist church. I am gay
and have a college degree in chemical engineering from the University
of Colorado at Boulder. I subsequently trained as a physician at
Loma Linda University School of Medicine. I currently practice and
teach medicine in Denver, Colorado. I have been with my partner
in a committed long-term gay relationship for nearly a decade. My
partner recently finished law school as an older student. I am "out"
(openly gay) with respect to my family, friends, and employer.
My
partner and I attend Dignity-Denver, a worship community for gay/lesbian
Roman Catholics, their families and friends. I am personally involved
in an association of gay/lesbian Seventh-day Adventists through SDA Kinship
International, primarily via an electronic computer forum (e-mail) known
as "Kinnet."
